My Top 3 Drugstore Foundations
A girl’s gotta have foundation, right? But how do you ever choose one when there’s so many different products and brands in the store? The first step is to find out which type of finish and coverage you like that works best with your skin type. I like a certain type of foundation that has full coverage and is super long lasting with a matte finish as I tend to have oily skin.So here are my top three foundations which are easily sourced and should be in the affordable price range. In no particular order….
Loreal Infallible Makeup- $35.95
The bottle reads “Advanced Never Fail Makeup 18-Hour Smooth-Blend Comfort” so you would assume 1. It stays on ALL day and 2. It doesn’t feel like you’ve got a lot of makeup on. Both of these points are correct! I found this foundation probably about 5 years or so ago and have since repurchased it over and over because it is exactly what I look for in a foundation – it never fails me.The formula is easy to apply, blend and spread, I use a kabuki brush (usually a sigma round top or something like that) to apply this with. I do find it can be a little cakey, but I only discovered this after finding other foundations which are not as cakey and provide the same coverage. When I know I have a full day ahead and possibly no time to touch up before dinner this foundation is perfect. I think it even gets better the longer you wear it from when you first apply it.The look of the bottle is similar to most of their foundations but has a red trim around the bottle neck and pump. Very functional – until you want to get that last drop out!
Maybelline SuperStay 24HR – $21.95
The bottle reads “Micro-flex formula No-Transfer 24 Hour Wear”. Not sure if I would say it’s 24 hour wear, but it does wear very well as long as you set it with a long lasting powder. I did a First Impressions video on this foundation and I have come to love it so much more since then. I would wear this on a night out for dinner or on the weekends during the day but I don’t think it would be suitable for an all day and night deal.Once again, I have no complaints with the formula, it applies great with a kabuki foundation brush however I have noticed that it does tend to set quickly and has an almost powder finish. You may think you don’t need to set it – but definitely set it because it can transfer if you don’t! I love the way it blends in to your skin and gives a great base to the rest of the makeup. The packaging is the major downfall of the product – it only has a screw top lid to the bottle! A lot of foundations are converting their packaging to pumps (eg Revlon Colourstay) which is extremely user-friendly. I find this just makes a big of a mess and you need to be careful while pouring it.
L’Oreal True Match Foundation- $29.95
I have only discovered this one within the past year also. The bottle has similar words to the first two “Super Blendable, Matches Skin Colour and Texture”. This foundation, I love wearing! It feels so comfortable on your skin and it comes in so many colours – you should have no problem in finding one for you. I would recommend this for anyone to try if they were looking for a new foundation. The coverage is buildable so you can start out with a little and build it up to full with no problems.Another bottle with a pump – which works perfect for me! The packaging is a glass bottle with a clear lid and silver pump – much better than the little bottles of it in America in my opinion. If you haven’t tried any of these give them a go – you can get them on sale at very affordable prices so hold out for the specials.
